Spread the love

When my husband first submitted my name to the marriage committee, their leader looked at him and said,

“You want to marry an Igbo girl that was raised in the north?. Don’t you think she has lived a koromoto life and is now in church to find a good husband?”

Her other reason was shocking.

She said I was not suitable for him because I had only joined the church three months ago.

According to her, nobody knew my background well enough, and someone who came into the church that recently could not suddenly become the wife of a man everyone admired.

Anyone listening to her would think she was protecting my husband.

But the truth was different.

She was angry because she believed I had taken what belonged to her daughter.

You see, her daughter had been in that church for years.

She served faithfully.

She attended every program.

She was known by everyone.

For a long time, she had hoped that one day my husband would notice her.

After all, he was a successful man, a man many families wanted their daughters to marry.

But then I walked into the church.

A woman nobody knew.

A woman who had only been there for three months.

And somehow, my husband saw me and felt something he could not explain.

He told me later that the first day he saw me worshipping, something in his spirit told him, “This is your wife.”

At first, he tried to ignore it.

He thought maybe it was just admiration.

But the more he got to know me, the more convinced he became.

He wasn’t choosing me because of my appearance.

He wasn’t choosing me because of what people would say.

He chose me because of the peace he felt whenever he was around me.

And that was what made the marriage committee leader angry.

She couldn’t understand how someone who had just arrived could be chosen over people who had been waiting for years.

She started looking for reasons to stop the marriage.

She questioned my character.

She told my husband that I was too new for anyone to trust.

She made it seem like my past was something dangerous, even though she had no evidence against me.

But my husband refused to judge me based on rumors.

Instead, he decided to know me for himself.

He asked questions.

He watched my actions.

He saw how I treated people who had nothing to offer me.

And slowly, he discovered that the woman they were trying to make him reject was actually the woman who would bring peace into his home.

But the battle became harder when the committee leader started using her position to influence others.

Some people began looking at me differently.

People who had never spoken to me suddenly had opinions about my life.

For a moment, I wondered if I should walk away.

I told my husband, “Maybe this is too much trouble. Maybe everyone is right.”

But he held my hand and said, “If I leave you because of people’s opinions, then I never truly loved you.”

That was when I knew I had found a man who wasn’t just looking for a wife.

I had found a man who was willing to stand for the woman he believed in.

Eventually, the truth about the committee leader’s intentions came out.

People discovered that her biggest problem was never my character.

Her problem was that she wanted her daughter to be chosen.

She forgot that love is not a competition.

It is not given to the person who waits the longest or the person who knows the right people.

When it is genuine, it finds its way.

Today, my husband and I look back at that season and smile.

The same people who questioned our love became witnesses to how beautiful it became.

Because sometimes, the greatest proof that something is meant for you is not that everyone supports it from the beginning.

Sometimes, it is the fact that even when people try to stop it, the right thing still finds its way.I would also suggest making the husband a widower or a man who had refused marriage for years before meeting her if you want an even stronger emotional angle, because then his decision to choose her after only three months would feel even more powerful.
